Come and immerse yourself in beautiful sounds that are healing to your body, mind and soul. Relax while the vibrations of the Himalayan Singing Bowls wash over you bringing you quickly to a deep state of relaxation. The Himalayan Singing Bowls are crafted from 7 metals that make a musical 'singing' sound when played with a mallet. In addition to a primary tone, singing bowls produce a complex series of subtle overtones that create a uniquely soothing sound. The art of creating Tibetan singing bowls has been handed down from generation to generation within family clans. Sandra's bowls are made by a family clan whose work can be traced back to the time of the Buddha. Sandra trained several years in the Shuniya tradition which honors the ancient foundation of sound healing created by Master Tibetan and Nepalese practitioners.

The Yohi back office people have experienced Sandra’s sound baths several times and we give her our highest recommendation.

Yoga for Athletes: It’s Not a Competition

Date

Saturday, July 20 from 2:00p to 4:00p

Teacher

Tierra Barber

Cost

$30

This workshop presents a practical approach to yoga for athletes and cross-trainers. Going against the grain, this class will direct you not to compete, but to connect.

You’ll begin by connecting to your mind through a focus meditation – perfect for a “peak performance” pre-game ritual. You’ll then have time to connect to your body during a thoughtfully crafted sequence focusing on shoulders, hips and hamstrings. The movements you’ll learn should feel good in the moment and also offer a perfect warm up routine to optimize your future workouts. Finally, you’ll have a chance to recover and restore range of motion, deeply connecting with your breath in a restorative pose or two.

Join Tierra Barber to explore how to integrate yoga within your training cycle to more effectively balance strength, flexibility, and recovery.

Rhonda Kuster: Sanskrit Level 2 Workshop

Date

Saturday, August 31 from 1:00p to 5:00p

Teacher

Rhonda Kuster

Cost

$75

For the first time Rhonda is offering this workshop that builds on what you learned in her Level 1 class. Rhonda will briefly review what you learned in Level 1, including the Sanskrit alphabet sounds, understanding the diacritical marks and the five mouth positions.

Then the class will delve more deeply into this ancient beautiful language to learn how to pronounce more asana names and inquire into the stories of some of the yoga poses, such as Virabhadrasana and Matsyendrasana, and how Ganesha got his name (and his elephant head!).

You’ll learn the proper pronunciation of the chakras and chant their associated bija mantras in various ways so we can understand how to use them in order to bring more harmony to our subtle body system.

You’ll learn chants in greater depth including the Gayatri Mantra and the Purnamadah Purnamidam invocation from the Isha Upanishad, more of Patanjali’s yoga sutras and one of The Radiance Sutras (Lorin Roche’s translation of the Vijnana Bhairava Tantra) beloved by so many of us. Rhonda will also share with you the 7 different ways to chant mantras that she learned from her teacher, Jehangir Palkhivala.

Our Sanskrit journey continues here. Bring an inquisitive mind, an open heart, and a voice that's ready to sing these deeply meaningful and eloquent chants.

A $50.00 cancellation fee is included in the workshop cost. No refunds will be given within 30 days of the start date of workshop.

Saturday, November 2, 2019 from 9:00a to 4:00p
Sunday, November 3, 2019 from 10:00a to 4:00p

Teacher

Michele Vinbury

Cost

$327. Early bird enrollment if paid in full by July 31: $297

This workshop offers teachers an opportunity to explore the concepts and methods that underpin trauma sensitive yoga while experiencing parts of the EMBER yoga curriculum. It is intended for yoga teachers, meditation instructors, and practitioners with relevant professional experience who are interested in bringing mindfulness-based tools of proven effectiveness to underserved or at-risk populations.

EMBER (Mindfulness-based Emotional Resilience) is a twelve-week resilience training program geared toward women and men from underserved communities who are rebuilding their lives after trauma. In this weekend workshop, EMBER co-founders Michele Vinbury and Marybeth Hamilton offer an introduction to the curriculum, which they have implemented in prisons, hospitals, and organizations responding to substance abuse, domestic violence, and human trafficking. YOHI’s co-founder Marcia Miller draws on her long experience of teaching traumatized populations to join Michele and Marybeth in the teaching of the psychology of trauma and the principles of trauma-sensitive yoga. Psychiatrist and yoga teacher Lee Shackelford shares relevant  aspects of brain anatomy and function to shed light on how yoga can facilitate the integration of traumatic experiences for more healthful everyday functioning in the world.

The weekend training will include:

  • An exploration of portions of EMBER’s evidence-based, trauma-informed, culturally-sensitive methodology for working with women in prison, in transition, and in recovery. (This is not an EMBER Trauma Sensitive Yoga Teacher Certification Training - we offer that in a 9-mo 100hr format.)

  • Discussion of the foundations of the EMBER curriculum: trauma-sensitive yoga, restorative yoga, pranayama, and mindfulness-based yoga nidra.

  • An experience of two EMBER classes

  • A review of clinical research on the practical application of mindfulness-based practices for emotional and psychological issues, including PTSD.

  • An exploration of the dynamics of creating “safe space” for practice in challenging institutional settings, particularly the singular environment of prison.

  • Instruction in specific asana, pranayama and meditation practices that have been proven effective with women and men in challenging settings and circumstances.

  • Exploration of student-teacher dynamics, including issues of transference, boundaries, and the importance of teacher self-care

  • How to get started: practical strategies for establishing classes in prisons, therapeutic communities, hospitals, detention centers, and rehabilitation facilities.

A $100.00 cancellation fee is included in the workshop cost. No refunds will be given within 30 days of the start date of workshop.

The Classical teachings of Yoga arose in a time of patriarchal rule, with a masculine perspective for a male audience, to the exclusion of women. And yet out of an estimated 18 million practitioners in the world today, most of them are women. How does this powerful gender shift in the users and teachers of yoga impact the continued flowering of the practice of yoga?

The Feminine Face of Yoga embraces the corporeal experiences of emotion, gut intuition, sensuality and embodiment, while building on the masculine path of intellect, renunciation and transcendence as a path to Freedom. This integrated view may even provide answers to the global environmental and political crisis we all face.

Join us this weekend to explore the feminine principle that is at the heart of the Yogic Teachings. During this weekend we will:

  • Review the Foundational Philosophies of Yoga

  • Explore the pre-historical feminine roots of Yoga

  • Discuss some of the essential expressions of the feminine in yoga

  • Experience the wisdom and potency of the feminine as celebrated in the Tantric texts that include the Vijnanabhairava and the Spandakarika

  • Uncover feminine variations of practices from the Yoga Sutras

  • Build a vision for the future of yoga that embraces both the masculine & feminine

  • Practice BodySensing, Hatha Yoga, Breath Sensing, Pranayama, iRest Yoga Nidra & Meditation

Anne Douglas is a teacher of teachers. She has been teaching yogic philosophy, teacher trainings, workshops and retreats since 1989, and is a certified IAYT yoga therapist. She is the creator of the “iRest Daily” meditation program and past Director of Trainers for the iRest Institute. Anne’s boundless enthusiasm, depth of wisdom and gentle humor create fertile ground for inspired learning.

A Vibrational Experience Like No Other!

Enter a cosmic journey as Crown of Eternity transports you into a timeless space of sonic bliss.  It is a meditation; a dream-like state; a carefully honored space of intention and attention; a deep and lasting vibrational cleansing for the body and soul; a profound journey through all levels of the self like you have never experienced before.

Crown of Eternity will envelope you in cosmic chants and bathe you in waves of sound from over 60 vibrational instruments (multiple gongs, gong oblongs, bells, sound plates, sound triangles, and Himalayan singing bowls). The sound journey experience starts by preparing your body with light breath work, chanting or meditation and settling into a cosy space to rest deeply, to be awake, to meditate, or to be amazed by the vastness of the healing sound current.  The deep complex harmonics of multiple overtone instruments quickly silence the mind and resonate through your body melting away boundaries between being awake and being asleep, between inside and outside.  The rhythmic sound oscillations facilitate the movement of prana through the body and deliver a deep energetic reboot of the nervous system.  These sacred sounds are transmitted into the tissues and experienced as a full body sound massage, realigning us on a cellular level while removing unwanted patterns or blockages, and energizing, exhilarating and lifting the spirit.  Listeners often describe out of body experiences, seeing beautiful colors behind their eyes, past life impressions, expanded awareness and higher states of consciousness.  Meditate as Crown of Eternity tone you into the deepest conscious rest, cleansing, releasing, healing and harmonizing on all levels.

PLEASE BRING a yoga mat, blanket, or cushion for your comfort during extended relaxation on the floor.

Space is limited. Advance registration strongly advised!

About Crown of Eternity

Crown Of Eternity spend their lives serving people through vibration, sound, music, and energy healing. Through their extensive national tours with workshops, classes, therapy sessions, concerts and retreats they have helped thousands of people connect to their life energy, to deeper relaxation and to self healing. They have performed at Sat Nam Fest, Bhakti Fest, the Kripalu Center, and hundreds of yoga studios and wellness centers throughout the United States. They have trained many budding sound therapists on the therapeutic aspects of the Gong. Over the past 20+ years Mike Tamburo has become well known as a multi-instrumentalist and polymath, performing and recording ecstatic and transcendental music as well as folk, ambient and sometimes unclassifiable sounds. He is also an artist and a film maker. As he worked deeper and deeper with the sound current and his own self healing practices, he discovered the healing power of the gong and other tuned metal instruments (singing bowls, bells, sound plates) as well as the healing power of mantra and toning. In 2008 he met Gallina Tamburo, who was on her own journey of healing. Their shared love of ecstatic music, kundalini yoga, the gong, sound therapy, and sacred chanting set the foundation of their relationship, marriage and eventual musical collaboration. In addition to completing their Kundalini Teacher Training at the mother ashram in Espanola, NM and Yoga For Youth Training with Krishna Kaur they have studied with Gongmasters Don Conreaux and Sotantar. They are also trained in the Peter Hess Method of Sound Massage using Himalayan Singing Bowls for healing. They have also studied with John Beaulieu in his Body Harmonics approach of sound healing with tuning forks.

The duo have released 6 CDs together and also run the Sounds Eternal record label that has released many of Mike’s solo recordings. Together, Mike and Gallina have developed their own style of relating to the therapeutic vibrations of the Gong, incorporating ancient wisdom and infusing it with creativity, playfulness and joy. Crown of Eternity offer a unique sonic experience that is as much grounded in tradition as it is groundbreaking. There is an expansive, blissful, ethereal and epic quality to Crown of Eternity’s music. They are truly immersed in vibration. Their CDs include Gong CDs: "Dream Architecture", “Earth in Space” and Mantra CDs: “When the Music’s On”, “Vibrate the Cosmos” and “The Cosmos Shall Clear The Path” and Mike’s newest hammered dulcimer release “The Way To Be Free’. Whether they are bathing you in the complex harmonics of multiple gongs, ecstatic instrumentals or their cosmic renditions of sacred Kundalini Yoga mantras, Crown of Eternity delivers a heart centered experience that you will deeply appreciate and remember.  Learn more at www.CrownofEternity.com.

Sound Bath Workshop

Date

Saturday, July 7 from 4:00p to 6:00p

Teacher

Sada Nam Singh

Cost

$30

It's well-known that we need to be well-rested in order to experience well-being. But, there are many facets to this rest, and many aspects to our well-being that need to be in balance in order for us to feel our best. Our well-being is like a 3-legged stool composed of the physical, mental, and spiritual legs that hold us up. If any one is really off, it can topple over.

Join us for an evening of bliss and deep healing to address each of these areas and help you fill your cup!

Sada Nam Singh, a long time yogi, kundalini teacher, sound therapist, musician, and reiki master, will guide you through a chakra balancing meditation to integrate all aspects of your being followed by a bit of live mantra music to help us connect with the elements of nature within us.

Then, you will be given ample time for deep relaxation to the sound of gongs, shamanic drumming, singing bowls, and other sound healing tools provided by Sada Nam and Craig McGuire while receiving (optional) reiki at the same time to help you feel supported, cared for, and healed.

Wear loose, comfy clothes, and bring crystals, water or a journal if you like!

A $15.00 cancellation fee is included in the cost of this workshop. No refunds will be given within 7 days of the start date of workshops.

Inspiration, Roots and Stories

Date

Wednesday, June 6 from 6:00p to 9:00p

Teachers

Linda Oshins

Cost

Optional donations to the Yoga on High Foundation accepted to the door.

This evening’s talk is not about how to teach. No tips on improvement, on being better. It is a ramble through stories that typify what matters to me as a teacher and, sometimes, why—my inspirations, my roots, my favorite teaching stories, some promising mistakes. We all have personal ambitions as teachers, we come in different flavors. By talking about my aspirations, about what is particularly close to my heart’s desire and the style of teacher I represent, I hope to spark a wider look at your particular flavor as well.

This is part of a continuing series on inspiration. Optional donations to the Yoga on High Foundation accepted to the door.
