Stephanie Lopez, LISW-S, C-IAYT, is the Director of Operations, Senior iRest® Trainer and Retreat Leader for the iRest Institute. Stephanie is a skillful and authentic teacher who brings the ancient yogic teachings to life. With a deeply embodied understanding of meditation, she holds space for students to awaken to their Essential Nature. Stephanie’s offerings are informed by 25 years of immersion in the nondual teachings of yoga. As a psychotherapist, certified yoga therapist, and meditation teacher she bridges eastern wisdom with western psychology and neuroscience to support healing and transformation. Stephanie’s compassionate presence, depth of knowledge, and ease of being create a welcoming space for insightful learning. This retreat is co-sponsored by iRest Institute, Samyoga Institute and Yoga on High. It is held at the beautiful Bergamo Retreat Center in Beavercreek, Ohio on October 16-20 (Wednesday evening through Sunday lunch). It is a full 4-day retreat and qualifies as a short retreat for the iRest certification program.

Every month throughout the course, our group will meet together on a conference call (you’ll have several times to choose from).

There are many benefits to meditation.  These benefits have been documented through the centuries by yogis, monks, seekers, and more recently by scientists too: reduced stress, better sleep, healthy changes in brain structure, inner peace, and spiritual awakening. Over six months of dedicated study you will invite these and other wonderful benefits into your life as our community co-creates this immersive meditation experience.

Through expert-led seminars and dynamic, interactive conversations you will learn multiple practical approaches to silent and guided meditation.  You will also spend time developing your unique style as a meditation teacher. 

In this course you will learn:

  • Three main styles of meditation: concentration; heart-centered and chakra/kosha

  • How to develop a consistent, personal meditation practice

  • How to set up for meditation and how to teach the set-ups to others

  • Basics of teaching meditation to beginners

  • A conceptual overview of dualism and non-dualism

  • How sound is used in meditation

  • The role and application of pranayama, mudras, mantras and yantras

  • Basic neuroscience of meditation

This course has been created to ensure that you will have ample time for questions and answers, and to talk about your experiences.  You will have an opportunity to practice teaching meditation to your peers and to get feedback from them and from your teachers. On the final weekend you will present a meditation for beginners.

Classes will be both in-person and through conference calls, supported by a manual and our online educational platform. To foster a small teacher-student ratio, each student will be part of a small group with a mentor who will be available for support and questions on a regular basis.

A $200.00 cancellation fee is included in the workshop cost. Full payment due if registration is not cancelled by November 6, 2019.

Come join us for a journey with The Radiance Sutras, a love-drenched classic yoga meditation text that was clearly intended for people who live in the real world. The Sutras present meditation as a process of falling in love with life, with the pulsations and rhythms of the life force itself as it flows in our bodies. The text describes 112 different doorways into contact with the soul, ranging from breathing practices, to kundalini awakenings, to just letting your mind wander, to listing to inner sounds such as mantas, to rocking out to music, dancing, feasting, lovemaking, communing with nature, experiencing intense emotions.

Anyone can practice these methods of meditation. We each have our favorite ways which we can get better at as we develop new skills. Learn meditation practices that you can take home and practice on your own, that truly suit your individual nature. The emphasis is on naturalness, spontaneity, and being at home in yourself and in nature.

Dr. Lorin Roche began meditating in 1968 as part of scientific research at the University of California. He was trained as a meditation teacher in 1970 and has been sharing the delight ever since. His work focuses on individual differences, helping each person find the meditation practices and styles that help them to thrive. He has a PhD from the University of California at Irvine for his studies of the language meditators use to describe their inner experiences. Dr. Roche is the author of Meditation Made Easy, (HarperOne, 1998); with his wife, Camille Maurine, he wrote Meditation Secrets for Women (HarperOne, 2001). The Radiance Sutras, a new version of the Vijnana Bhairava Tantra, has been published by Sounds True. Lorin and his yogini shaktini wife, Camille Maurine, live in Marina del Rey, California.

This class will explore the energetic and felt sensory experience in the body through breath, meditation and art. We will cycle through periods of guided meditation and mindful watercolor painting, opening to new creative possibilities in our bodies and on paper. No prior art or meditation experience required.

Marica Miller Shares: If you ever thought (or someone told you) that you are not an artist, then this is the workshop for you. If you can breathe and hold a paint brush then you can make art with Katie as your guide. Her presence and instructions are just what you need to let go of fear and judgment about yourself and your ability to make art. I have worked with her several times and each time felt such exhilaration, freedom and joy. In one of my paintings I also discovered a deep message that is still helping me to live one of my highest values. AND, if you already know yourself to be an artist then this workshop will be pure bliss for you too!

Katie Whitsett holds a BA in Studio Art from Hanover College and is currently working with watercolors and more recently ceramics. She has melded her art and yoga lineages using art and meditation as mediums for exploring breath, energy, and the innate beauty that is within each of us.
