This year’s conversation will be influenced by his own depth of practice over the past year and by the questions and interests brought by the group. There will be hours of practice just for ourselves—you can’t teach interesting classes if you are not paying attention in your own body-mind—and specific portion of the class focusing on teaching methodologies. Join us for what is always a deep investigation into attention, presence and open curiosity.

This workshop is appropriate for yoga teachers and experienced students.

A $100.00 cancellation fee is included in the cost. No refunds will be given within 30 days of the workshop.

Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 9:30a to 5:00p
Sunday, October 20, 2019 from 9:00a to 12:30p

Teacher

Doug Keller

Cost

$287 Early bird enrollment if paid by September 18: $257

We welcome Doug Keller back to Yoga on High after a break of several years. Doug is a teacher who is always learning, and we very much look forward to his offerings this year. A wise, funny and humble teacher, Doug embodies what we love about yoga.

This year Doug will focus on learning anatomic and therapeutic practices to support shoulders and knees. The knee section will also provide tools and insights into problems with the hips and feet.

The training is structured to help teachers understand more deeply the therapeutic rationale behind alignment and action instructions in yoga poses — and to know when these instructions are helpful and appropriate, and when variations or a different emphasis are necessary. Instructions are clear, specific and user-friendly, and backed up by knowledge of the anatomy involved in the movements as well as an understanding of the common therapeutic problems that bring students to yoga seeking help. Asana sections will demonstrate the principles taught.

Beyond its usefulness in the classroom, the training is structured to give tools of assessment and sequencing for ‘mini-series’ of asanas and exercises for working individually with students on therapeutic problems. These ideas will also be helpful for sequencing larger classes or groups working with therapeutic problems in common.

And by our request, Doug will include time on Sunday morning for pranayama and meditation.

This workshop is appropriate for those who have already studied with Doug seeking to reinforce what they have learned and looking for new insights to add to what they know. Likewise, the training always proves to be very accessible to teachers and advancing students coming for the first time, seeking deeper insight into yoga, its rationale, and its benefits.

A $75.00 cancellation fee is included in the workshop cost. No refunds will be given within 30 days of the start date of workshops.

Saturday, July 14 from 9:30a to 12:30p & 2:00p to 5:00p
Sunday, July 15 from 9:00a to 1:00p

Teacher

Roger Cole

Cost

$345. Early bird enrollment if paid in full by June 13, 2018: $297

One of the reasons we love inviting Roger Cole to Yoga on High is that he blends deep anatomic and physiological information with clarity of language as he teaches asana. In this workshop you will not just sit as you learn from a master, you’ll be practicing what he is teaching and experiencing how he cues each pose. And while much of the information is based on teaching inversions, you will see that a healthy practice of inversions includes poses from all pose groups to prepare the body for inversions as well as recover after. Marcia has studied extensively with Roger and he has especially influenced her teaching of restorative yoga and inversions.

Restorative Inversions: Physiology and Practice
Friday, July 13 from 6:30p to 9:00p

BKS Iyengar developed ingenious ways to support the body in inverted yoga postures to trigger multiple relaxation reflexes, producing extraordinary states of physical rest and mental peace. Learn the physiology that makes restorative inversions so effective, then put it to use in a long, deep practice.

Preparation for Inversions: Asana, Anatomy, Physiology and Mind
Saturday, July 14 from 9:30a to 12:30p

Experience a whole-body yoga practice designed to prepare you physically and mentally for strong, balanced, satisfying inversions. Includes an introduction to shoulder and neck anatomy and inversions physiology. Practice of inverted poses will be in the afternoon class.

How to Practice and Teach Inversions
Saturday, July 14 from 2:00 to 5:00p

Dramatically improve your practice and teaching of inversions by consciously optimizing the placement of the hands, wrists, shoulders, neck and head, then working your way up the body to align the whole pose. The class will cover handstand, headstand, shoulderstand and alternatives to accommodate students who have less experience or special needs.

Inversions: Deeper Anatomy, Practice and Teaching
Sunday, July 15 from 9:00a to 1:00p

Iyengar taught that alignment brings equanimity. Experience this profound truth directly by learning how precise, inverted balance on a strong, well-constructed base opens your heart and quiets your mind. The class includes whole-body preparation, deeper exploration of neck and shoulder anatomy, how to feel and teach precise alignment, and practice of inversions and variations, including headstand and shoulder stand. Alternative asanas will be provided for those who need or prefer them.

A $75.00 cancellation fee is included in the workshop cost. No refunds will be given within 30 days of the start date of workshop.
