Marybeth Hamilton

Marybeth Hamilton (RYT, PhD) is a certified yoga and meditation teacher and highly experienced adult educator with a passion for extending the tools of personal transformation to underserved communities. Her teaching experience over the past 25 years has spanned two continents and extended to an exceptionally diverse range of students: political refugees from Zimbabwe, survivors of civil war in Sierra Leone, and other individuals united by their complex lives and their intense desire to change. In 2010, guided by her twenty-year practice of meditation and yoga, she left academia to develop a mindfulness program for women in prison, undertaking a 200-hour yoga teacher training, a prison mindfulness facilitator training, and a Level One training in iRest Yoga Nidra, a trauma-sensitive guided mindfulness practice designed for survivors of PTSD. In May 2012, with support from the Yoga on High Foundation, she launched a weekly drop-in mindfulness meditation class at the Ohio Reformatory for Women, working first with women in the Reintegration program and later with the general prison population. Most recently, with yoga teacher Michele Vinbury, she created EMBER, a 12-week mindfulness-based resilience training for women in transition from traumatic experience.
