In this 6-week series class, students will be invited to explore gentle yoga movements in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. How might our Trauma Sensitive class be different than other classes on our schedule? The teacher has experience and training in trauma informed yoga practices. The classes are created to be predictable. They will start and end the same way every week, and you will know what''s coming from the very beginning. This is a women only class and, as a rule, there will be no physical hands-on adjustments. Attention will be paid to the types of props used and of the potential for feelings of vulnerability in certain postures. The teacher will continually offer options, allowing you to practice making empowered choices, opting in or out of any portion of the class at any time.
Because strong emotions may arise and be released during and after a somatic practice like yoga, we suggest students also work with a psychologist, psychiatrist, or other mental health professional while on their healing journey.
“Yoga allows survivors to regain a sense of comfort and ease within their own shape, to process nonverbally feelings that transcend language, and to experientially cultivate gratitude towards the body, which serve as a reminder of one’s resilience (Boeder, 2012).”
Class fee is refundable if canceled 7 or more days prior to start of class. Class fee, less a $15 administration fee, is refundable if canceled 4-6 days prior to the start of class.
