Ashtanga Teacher Training
This is a rare opportunity—a 64-hour Ashtanga Teacher Training that will both deepen your own practice and prepare you to teach the Ashtanga Primary Series.
Participants will start each day with self-practice in the Mysore room. Practice is considered the greatest teacher and is the key to inspired teaching.
Following morning practice, we will go systematically through each pose of the primary series covering breath, application of bandhas, drishti, and traditional Sanskrit counting. We will discuss and explore foundational actions, alignment and modifications in order to present and teach this series to beginners and advanced students alike. In this course you will learn:
To give and receive safe and effective hands on adjustments.
To use verbal cues, pacing and rhythm, to help students move through the sequence.
Basic anatomy, effective body mechanics and practice technique.
How to work safely with asanas and vinyasa
Appropriately adapt asanas to individual students.
Recognize common postural and practice habits in students.
Develop your personal practice.
Practice and teach consistent movement into and out of postures including jumping back and jumping through.
Our staff of long time practitioners have all studied consistently at Yoga and High learning and practicing with in the Ashtanga community started by one of Yoga on High’s founders, Martha Marcom. Additionally, each have done multiple teacher trainings with nationally-known Ashtanga teachers including Tim Miller, David Swenson, Richard Freeman, Mary Taylor, Maty Ezraty, Manju Jois and David Keil.
Participants should have a consistent Ashtanga practice and be comfortable working with the full primary series. A 200-hour Teacher Training certification is required. This 64-hour training includes the Ashtanga weekend workshop and a final follow up weekend focused on teaching under observation while giving and receiving feedback.
