Urban Zen

Overview

Imagine a healthcare system where the patient is treated, not just the disease—a system where Eastern healing techniques support Western medicine in a holistic approach to patient care.

In 2009 the Urban Zen Foundation launched the Urban Zen Integrative Therapy Program (UZIT) toward realizing this vision. The UZIT program includes training in yoga therapy, essential oil therapy, Reiki, nutrition and contemplative care. Inspired by Donna Karan and designed by Rodney Yee and Colleen Saidman-Yee, UZIT trains members of the health-care and yoga communities to provide its cluster of therapeutic support services to people facing illness or injury, in and out of a hospital setting. Its curriculum is uniquely designed to address the classic symptoms associated with illness: exhaustion, pain, anxiety, nausea, insomnia and constipation (PANIC). More than 80 students have completed the program which includes 100 hours of clinical rotation in a hospital or health care setting or in private, out-patient settings. For more information and to watch several inspiring videos about this program go to: www.urbanzen.org.

Yoga On High working with Urban Zen to offer this program in Ohio and we are thrilled by the opportunity it offers to our community. For more information contact Marcia Miller at Marcia@yogaonhigh.com. She’ll put you on a mailing list and keep you updated on news of this project.

To personally experience the modalities of an Urban Zen session you have several options:

Yoga on High is hosting an ongoing weekly Urban Zen class, Wednesdays at 5:45p.  Check with front desk during summer as class is intermittent;  for Fall Quarter class will be held every week.

Schedule a private session with any of our Urban Zen Integrative Therapists, Martha Marcom, Marcia Miller or Linda Oshins.  They are available for one hour sessions.  First session is $75, after that $100/hour.

Urban Zen Class with Rodney Yee and Colleen Saidman Yee, Saturday, September 10.
