How many times did you think, “If only there had been an alternative to gym class when I was in High School?” Well now there is!
Many local high schools grant students academic credit toward their physical education requirement for attending certified yoga classes. Some students chose to attend class after school while others prefer to take their class over the summer. By taking yoga outside of the traditional school day, students have more time for extra study halls, advanced placement classes or subjects of special interest to them. And they build the foundation for a healthy life.
The lessons learned in yoga class carry over into daily lives, supporting existing athletic activities, the physical strain of playing an instrument or dancing, or the challenges of academic competition.
Note: Most schools require students to have their yoga teacher sign a form every week. Please check with your school to ensure your teen has the correct documentation.
