Mysore style, the traditional method of learning Ashtanga yoga as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India, is self-practice, not an instructor-led class like the Primary Series classes.
While students do their own practice at their own pace, the instructor circulates around the room and gives each student individual instructions and hands-on adjustments. In the class you can ramp up your practice or slow it down if you are injured. Whatever your goal, join Mysore to work toward an independent practice supported by the energy of the class.
Mysore style is open to all levels of Ashtangis, from brand new beginners to the most experienced students, but it is recommended that you know how to do Surya Namaskara A and B on your own before attending. The bookstore sells practice cards for the modified and full primary series to help you remember the sequence of poses.
